The OmMade Meet the Maker Story

OmMade Meet the Maker started off as a vision - to create a shop front similar to a department store but with a slight twist... to feature the finest makers and curators who, just like us, are passionate about local and ethically sourced products.

In October 2018, that vision became a reality. We opened our first collaboration store in Adelaide's Central Market where each maker shared the space and time in the shop.

The first space, Shop 52, was a tiny space in the Central Market Arcade under the escalators that we managed to squeeze 9 small businesses into. Once word spread and more and more people saw our little shop, the demand grew as did the interest of more makers. It didn’t take long for us to outgrow the space, so when a bigger shop became available we jumped at the opportunity.

We opened the doors to shop 12, in Adelaide's Central Market Arcade in January 2020. It was a much bigger space which meant more makers could come onboard. It was also closer to the market action, which meant the opportunity to meet more customers.

Then, the world wide pandemic hit…. so naturally we opened 3 more stores - Westfield Marion, Rundle Place and now in Eastland Victoria!

OmMade Meet the Maker is now a team of 32 small businesses operating across all 4 stores, in 2 states. 

Of course it comes with it’s challenges but as a supportive community, we’ve made it work.

Our unique retail concept not only makes it easy to support small, family owned businesses, but you can also meet the makers behind each product and build a direct relationship with their brand.

How does it work?

Each Maker has allocated space in the shop to display their products. They also spend a day working in the store to meet the customers directly, answer questions and share the face and story behind the business.

This is such a unique concept in our fast past consumerism world. It gives customers the opportunity to slow down, appreciate the time and passion that goes into products and the opportunity to support local small businesses with 100% of each product sold going back to the individual makers.
